Start of the Dr. Charles A. Hjerpe Fellowship
During the first days of the Hjerpe Fellowship, the Fellow will spend time in Chicago reviewing their entire schedule for the next two years and familiarizing themselves with the LMS (Learning Management System), which will contain all the academic curricula and other pertinent materials. The Fellow will also be introduced to the Board of Directors, the Module Instructors, and the leadership of the Booth School of Business. Additionally, the Fellow will kick off their first week of academic module instruction.
Today marks the conclusion of the modules academic curricula, a significant milestone in Fellow’s educational journey. As we wrap up the last lecture, we encourage our Fellow to take this opportunity to recharge and reconnect with their loved ones. Use this time to unwind, enjoy the company of family and friends, and reflect on the knowledge and experiences gained. This break is well-deserved and essential for your well-being before we embark on the next phase of our program.
The Fellow will resume further activities and tasks in the program at the beginning of January.
In this second phase of the Module the goal is to bring a value creation for all three participants (dairy farm, the Fellow, and the Module Instructor/Board). Therefore, all participants will work together to choose the desired case studies for each module for each individual Fellow. During the entirety of the Fellowship the Fellow will be doing case studies concurrently within all the modules. For example, the Fellow may have time to do three or four case studies within a single module throughout the two-year period.
As we move into the second year of the program, the continuation of these case studies will ensure ongoing learning and practical application of knowledge, benefiting all parties involved. For example, Fellows may complete three or four case studies within a single module over the two-year period or the entire two-years may be consumed by a single case study. Some more demanding case studies may even be carried over from one Fellow to the next. Point being that in the majority of the cases only one case study per module should be active at any given time. This phase will not only solidify the theoretical knowledge gained in the first year but also provide real-world experience and deeper insights into the complexities of dairy farm management. The Fellow will have the opportunity to refine their skills and implement innovative solutions in collaboration with their peers and instructors. The practical nature of the case studies will also allow the Fellow to see the tangible impact of their work on the dairy farms, enhancing their problem-solving abilities and strategic thinking. Moreover, this sustained engagement with the case studies will help build lasting relationships between the Fellow and the dairy farms, creating a network of professionals dedicated to advancing the dairy industry.
Your global class gathers in Chicago for an Executive MBA celebration and University-wide graduation activities. Although it’s the end of the Executive MBA Program, it’s just the beginning of your lifelong connection with the worldwide Chicago Booth network.
During the last several weeks of the Fellow’s second year Fellowship the Fellow, having finished his academic curriculum and his case studies, shall present to the Module Instructor and the Board a capstone style project presentation that demonstrates the Fellow’s full understanding and future application of these learnings.
Upon a positive outcome of these presentations and the completion of the Executive MBA the Fellow shall be honored with the Dr. Charles A. Hjerpe Fellowship Award.
December 1st
The deadline for applications is December 1st of the year prior to the commencement of the Hjerpe Fellowship.
December 15th
The final decision will be made on December 15th of the year prior to the commencement of the program.
January 13th
The prospective Fellow must apply to the Booth Executive MBA program at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business by the second deadline, which is by mid-January of the same year as the start of the Hjerpe Fellowship program.
March
In the spring of the program’s starting year, a future Fellow will have the opportunity to meet with board members during an introductory meeting.
